A couple of weekends ago, my boyfriend and I decided to take a trip to York for the day. York is a city I have always loved, as I always feel like there is more to explore every time I go. We spent the day walking around exploring, and eating yummy food. So this brings me onto todays blog post and if you haven’t been you definitely should; here’s 5 reasons why!
1) York Minster & The Castle Wall
York Minster it has beautiful architecture and definitely is an icon of York. Whenever I have come to York I have always walked past it to go into town, and every time I love it more and more. I think the surroundings of York mister also add to it, it’s very quiet and old. The castle wall gives you a great view of York, given i’ve never walked all the way around it, but what I have walked of it you can see a lot and also get a great view of York minster!
2) The Shambles
The Shambles is one of my favourite places in York because it is so cute and quaint and it actually inspired the look of Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter films which I think is super cool! What also makes The Shambles special for me are the independent shops all along it and the old fashioned sweet shops. Everything about it feels so magical as if you are really in a place like Diagon Alley.
3) Betty’s Tea Rooms
Now I’ve never actually been into Betty’s tea rooms as there is always the biggest queues, but that can only be a good thing right?! One reason I love Betty’s is because when I first came to York it’s somewhere my Mum told me was amazing and was a very famous tea room… I WILL go there for afternoon tea one day!! It has a very nostalgic feel to it and what’s going to York if you don’t even walk past Betty’s hey!
4) Yorkshire Pudding Wraps
Now, my absolute FAVOURITE!! If you haven’t tried a Yorkshire pudding wrap, where have you been hiding?! These are sooooo yummy- basically a roast dinner in a wrap of Yorkshire pudding, whats not to love?! A definite must if you are ever in York- although these are becoming a lot more popular all over, so if you see one take the opportunity, I promise you won’t regret it; they’re always best coming from Yorkshire though ;).
5) The Markets (Especially their Christmas one!)
Markets are something I love, wherever they are the atmosphere of markets is just so lovely. The little independent stalls are full of people with amazing talent and lots of yummy smells. When we went the other weekend there was a food festival on so it smelt deeelicious, as you can imagine. We were soooo tempted by all the lovely looking sweet treats but decided to hold off and save it all for our wraps (hehe). We came to the Christmas Market in York last year and will definitely be going back this year. There were so many great Christmas gift ideas there. We picked up some baubles for my family which made the gift a lot more personal and thoughtful. Oh and the smell of mulled wine was amazing mmmmmm- it’s the perfect thing to go to if you are wanting to get into the festive spirit!
And there we have it! 5 reasons why I love York. As well as just those 5 there’s so much more to do, so if you’re looking for somewhere to go on a nice day, I would highly recommend York and would love to know what you like about York too!!
