Recently I’ve been finding social media a bit overwhelming and found myself comparing my life to others and thinking I’m falling behind; not doing as many fun things as others, not having the newest wardrobe or going on a glamorous holiday and just other little things that I imagine most people fall into occasionally. I’ve been trying to remind myself that social media is just a highlight reel, but often it’s hard to keep reminding yourself of this when, as you scroll through Instagram, the ‘perfect life’ is all you see and it becomes hard to think that these are just highlights and not how someone’s life actually is.
I try not to spend lots of time on social media, and when I’m with friends and family I always try to live in the moment as this is what matters most to me. I don’t often feel like this, but when I do it makes me second guess everything. But I always remember to take a step back and be grateful for everything I have right now. I am healthy, I have the best family I could ever wish for, a happy healthy relationship with my boyfriend who I am so lucky to live with in a gorgeous flat, and friends who are always supportive.
I think it’s important for people, especially with social media being how it is today, to take a step back sometimes and realise that what you have and where you are in life is exactly where you’re meant to be at this moment, and if you don’t feel like right now is your time, I’m sure it will come.
To anyone reading this who might be feeling the same as me, take a step back and write down all the things you’re grateful for and take time to step away from social media and appreciate all you have around you, and I guarantee it will make you feel better.
Until next time,
